Guns N' Roses: Chinese Democracy

I don't often review new albums but this one was compelling for a number of reasons.

I am this time because Guns N' Roses is a classic Rock Icon, and rock icon's don't make comeback albums after 15 years. Also I was never a Guns 'N Roses fan. I didn't dislike them at all, but I never bought or even heard an album. I've only ever known... you know, the popular songs that you hear all over. So I though it would be good to give a GNR ignorant opinion about their latest album. The main reason that put me over the top, was that fact that they managed to do what Metallica hasn't done. The made a good sounding album.

Yes I know Not this dynamic range crap again! I'm sorry, but yes I have to. I really like the songs on both Chinese Democracy, and Death Magnetic. However Death Magnetic sounds like shit. The dynamics have been almost completely leveled out, making it sound like loud noise. Apparently Guns 'N Roses are aware of this trend, and wanted the album to sound like what their fans remember. So I can say it sounds truly fantastic. Crank it up and it really makes you feel the music. Major props to Guns 'N Roses.

Alright. With all that technical audiophile crap out of the way, the songs are very cool. It's very clear they spend a lot of time on this album. Every song sounds meticulously crafted with purpose. Each one musicly (is that a word) evokes the perfect emotions to complement the lyrics. It's just all kinds of perfect. I fully expect them to win a Grammy for this.

Twilight

Yesterday I saw the new vampire movie. Twilight is what you get when you you need to make a vampire movie that can be shown on the family channel. Well maybe it's not that bad but it's very sappy for a vampire movie.

On the other hand I do know it was intended for teenage girls. Boy do I know it. The theater was packed with them. All giggly and stupid with excitement. They started applauding and hollering when the previews ended and the feature started. Part of me wanted to flee in terror. But it was a small part and I told him to suck it up.

I'm sort of glad I stayed... Sort of. Many parts of it were painfully sappy, others were utterly insane for any other vampire movie. What if the Cleavers were vampires and decided to play a family game of Baseball? Yah.. That's not even craziest part. The movie it's self makes the comparison of vampires and humans as being Lions and Lambs. Now imagine a family of Lions being completely fine with one of their sons dating a Lamb. Yes it's that nuts. With all that, I will admit, it's just barely.. mostly entertaining.

I'm sure if you match it's target demographic you will love it. For my self and everybody else, waiting for the inevitable squeals to hit HBO or Showtime would be the best option.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Well it's finally here. A romantic comedy for guys. Zack and Miri is the sickest raunchiest romantic comedy ever made. And it was very fun.

Honsetly though I have to say I was a little disappointed. So far I have loved every Kevin Smith movie, including this one. With said however, it just doesn't stack up. I don't really know why. Something about it didn't feel right.

It was plenty fun. Lots of fake characature porn sex, boobs, and one free swinging shlong. Good family fun for all.

Second movie review in a row! This time it's W.

It's easy to imagine, when a man has a 20% approval rating that a movie about him is simply going to make him look like an idiot. While George isn't overly bright, it isn't trying to make fun of him. It is by all accounts accurate. It portrays a man who is trying to do (and genuinely believes he is) the right thing. However the people around him, that he is counting on, are searing him a little wrong. Some are doing it intentionally, most are not.

However that honesty doesn't necessarily make the movie any good. Frankly I found it boring. It is really a collage almost, showing separate skits of people doing impressions. None of them are all that funny. While it is all very interesting, and well worth watching. I think it would be better served with a more cohesive narrative, a more linear story line. In it's current form, It misses something all movies need to do, at least a little, it simply isn't entertaining.

I would say, if you are genuinely interested in politics, and the workings of this president's mind, absolutely go see it. If your not, don't worry, your not missing anything.

Religulous

I'm going to start off by saying that I absolutely agree with Bill Maher on the topic of Religion. It's all crazy, irrational, unintelligible, bullshit made up by men who want power.

Now that only the 13% of people who don't want to be associated with any religion are left reading, I can write about the actual movie. At first glance everybody is going to be thinking. All the people watching this don't need to be convinced. Those who should be watching will be too angry to actually think about any of the points it raises. That is absolutely correct, and he knows it.

In the end he makes his real point. The 13% of us who think all religions are kind of nuts and don't want to be associated with any of them, need to stand up and be heard. We are the largest minority in the country, and we need to make sure everyone knows that. We need to fight for control of this country, so the religiously blinded don't use their faith as an excuse to nuke other countries, pollute the earth to uselessness, and bring about the end times that the majority of them believe are right around the corner.

So I think this is an important movie for everyone to see.
