Some people aren't "thinkers". That is not to say they aren't smart, or that they don't rationally consider various options, in order to make the best choice. What I'm saying is that some people don't think about the bigger questions of life.

Specifically, Why do we do the things we do? What are the motivations, desires, thoughts, memories, experiences and tendencies behind our actions and decisions. Why do we make different choices in very similar situations. Why are we in whatever mood we happen to be in. I don't mean simple action, reaction causality. Although that is important, it is only the first aspect of our decisions and moods. The vast majority is determined by our past experiences, and individual personality.

Today I realized (again I suppose) that many people don't think about these things. It's as if there is a fog, blocking their view past the smaller immediate details of things. Preventing them from ever considering larger interactions that are present, but further away. This can be applied to many different things. Today's example was of personal motivations.

One person was trying to discuss the underlying personality traits of an individual. The things which effect one's actions in a given situation. The person in question, was unable to have that conversation. All they talked about was the specific events, which were in fact largely unrelated to the attempted topic of discussion. The actual attempted topic, was the root causes of the different personality aspects of an individual, which make their actions in a given situation different than some one else's.

I don't think there is much that we can do for these people. You can show somebody water, but you can't make them see it. They have to open their eyes on their own.

Introverts are People Too

0 Comments | , , , and

I just finished reading one of the greatest articles that I have ever read, called Caring for Your Introvert. I know I'm an introvert. I knew as soon as I learned what the word meant. The people who insist that mankind is a social animal, are Extroverts. They are energized by socializing. Introverts are exhausted by it. We don't shoot the breeze. We don't chit chat. In fact we never engage in any conversation we have no interest in, unless we realize that we need to, in order to make the extrovert who started the conversation happy.

Jonathan Ranch (the writer) goes on to answer some questions, and explain how introverts are misunderstood, and mishandled by most extroverts. Extroverts tend to think that we are upset, or arrogant, or that we just don't like them. None of which are true. We are just thinking about things we aren't ready to discuss yet. When we have something specific to say to you, we will. And we would love it if you did the same.
