Daniela Velez

Yesterday I shot a set with a new model Daniela Velez. Pretty girl, perfect sunset, I got a lot of really great shots in only 40 minuets.

They are much better than what she had on her ModelMayhem page. Better than a few I have as well. So they will help out both our portfolios. I wasn't sure what to expect because she's only 16. But she was very level headed and professional. Her mother wasn't over my shoulder watching every move. It was all very simple and easy. I will definitely work with her again. She does Parkour (think foot chase at the binging of 007: Casino Royale). In the spring we will try to get some cool action shots of that.

Canon50D.jpg

I found my new camera. The Canon 50D will be available in October. It really is everything I want.

The high ISO and high resolution will allow me to use natural light in all but the darkest places. It supports the full speed of my Extreme 4 memory cards. It has a big, brighter, high resolution screen. It just does everything I want.

I was waiting to see the specs of the 5Dmk2, but It pretty well out of my price range any way, and the 50D is plenty for me.

Official Specs

Custom Pictures of Things

5 Comments | , , and

I may be crazy, but I had what I think was an interesting idea. We'll find out soon enough which is right. I posted an add on Craig's List offering custom photos of any person, place or thing. There are some rules of course. But I don't want to have to say no to any responses I get.

It's a kind of test, or exorcise. The point of which is to force me to take photos of things I haven't thought of. So anything I skip is like getting a test question wrong. Then again, in the past I have had some strange responses form Craig's List, so we will just see what happens.

Of course any ideas any of you may have, are also welcome. And I plan on posting all resulting photos here as well.

Some Photographers Aren’t Digital

I interviewed today, for a photographer needing an assistant. She utterly shocked me when she said she still used 120 film. It was all I could do to keep my jaw from landing in my lap.

I know not everyone is a technophile, some people are even technophobes. But a modern professional photographer still using film, is like a modern fisherman using a row boat and a hand thrown net.

I drove an eighty minute round trip for a five minuet "introductory" style interview. That was a little of a letdown. She had people scheduled back to back every 10 minutes or so. She could have done that over the phone, then taken the top three or five candidates for real interviews.

That said I would still like to get the job. It’s good to know where things came from, and I don’t have as much film experience as I would like to be able to claim. On top of that, the job pays pretty well compared to what I’m getting currently. So I’m hopeful, but not expecting much.

Latest Photography Job

0 Comments | , , , and

I was contacted Wednesday to make some product photos for a new fragrance company, Alpha Dream. It was a fun job, they have an aesthetic sense similar to mine so we were very much in sync. These are their first images, primarily for the website. In the future they will need more with models, and different settings and styles for each fragrance. So hopefully they will be very good long term clients.
