The New Fall Schedule (monday)

0 Comments | , , , and

I'm a bit of a TV junkie. This year thought it would be cool to spend the next few posts going over this fall's lineup. Yes I know I'm late, and I should have done this a month ago. But I just want to cover what I'm watching, and it took me a few weeks to make all of my final picks. (all times are Eastern Standard Time US.)

Heroes - Monday 9pm - NBC
Heroes

What if ordinary people really had super powers? No body would be wearing capes. Nobody would decide to devote their daily lives to flying around the city dropping bad guys off at the police station. They would be freaked out, confused, afraid. Eventually they would figure it out, and then the really cool shit would begin. That's what Heroes is all about.

It is very much a serial. Each episode is another chapter in a continuing story. So picking it up in the middle may be a little rough. currently we are several episodes into the second season. But I will promise, if you give it 2 weeks, you won't be able to stop watching.

Journyman - Monday 10pm - NBC
Journeyman

Journeyman is Quantum Leap re-envisioned. It's pretty good, but nothing earth shattering. A far cry from Studio 60, which it replaces in the NBC schedule. It revolves around a reporter spontaneously popping from his modern daily life, into the past, and back again. In a given episode, it may happen 4 or 5 times. Each time to a different part of a single random person's life. Now of course he ends up doing something to help that person, and guide them to a better life in the present. Some times it's intensional, other times he just stumbles into helping them.

But it's not easy and smooth to pop back and fourth in time. When he travels to the past he gets only a few seconds warning via a sudden headache. That is an inconvenience at best, at worst, it can very dangerous. So far it caused problems for his wife on an airplane. He crashed a car when it continued to barrel down the road without him in it. And he disappeared while with his son at a street fair. Any way, it's worth checking out.

Weeds - Monday 11pm - Showtime
Weeds

Weeds is just cool. Something Showtime has been rocking with for the last few years. Weeds is a Dark Comedy about a mother who started selling pot to pay the bills, after her husband died. It's just... a very smart and funny show, with lots of fantastic characters, any of which could have shows of their own. Just watch it.

Californication - Monday 11:30pm - Showtime
Californication

Who doesn't love a writer, who has been having trouble writing ever since is common law wife took their daughter, and left him to spiral down a hole of meaning less sex with countless random women, desperately trying to fill the void left behind. He eventually realities that the only thing that could ever replace her was... her. Now he is embarking on a quest to regain who he was, by regaining the woman who loved him. Oh yah! Lots of other stuff happens along the way.

David Duchovny has a new series on Showtime. I just finished viewing the first of what I hope will be many episodes. In the first 30 minuets his character (Hank Moody) has sex with 4 women. 3 are married, and one is under age. Regrettably, telling you much more about the last one, would spoil the surprise at the end of the episode.

David Duchovny and an apple

Now I don't expect that bare chested trend to continue. By the end he has basically realized he is in trouble. I'm sure the rest of the season is going to be a very rocky path toward being able to write again. Oh I forgot to mention that part. He is a writer who had his book transformed into a crappy movie. I'm guessing that was also around the time is significant other, and mother to his daughter left him. The combination of the two were the likely catalysts to is current downward spiral.

In summation, the show looks very cool. Granted I'm an old X-Files junkie, but I like Duhovny's dry humor style. In this show that is going to be the primary driving appeal.
