The Tragedy of Dreams

2 Comments | , , and

I don’t dream very often. Not ones that I remember at all any way. But the few times I do wake up with the memory of a dreaming. It always goes something like this.

XKCD: Every Damn Morning
xkcd - Every Damn Morning

And that is tragic to me. I really wish I could hold on to them.

John Stewart, Journalist?

0 Comments | , , , , and

John Stewart is a comedian. Just ask him. In fact he looks down on people that see him as a journalist, and watch his show for the news. Of course he’s almost entirely wrong about all of that. He is a comedian, and a journalist.

On the flip side, he is tied as the Most Admired Journalist by Americans under 30, along with Bill O’Reilly. That's mind boggling to me. On one hand you have someone who tries to point out the contradictory things that people say and do in politics. And on the other hand, you have someone who tries to convince the viewers of their personal political viewpoint.

Those who think John is also a propagandist, only making fun of the republicans, should see his piece on Obama’s race speech. He tore through it like it was a paper bag filled with water.

So I would say The Daily Show is nearly as good a news program as some, and much better than others.

Yesterday I Lost my Job

I knew NXP was having issues. I expected the to simply fire the new temp they hired in the last couple of months. I was told by everybody I work with that I was going to be hired as soon as possible, and my contract was going to be renewed until that happens. They fired all the temps. Even the ones who were told 5 months ago we were getting hired as soon as possible.

It sucks. But I decided to give photography a real chance. Honestly up until now it was try something and wait 6 months to see if anything happens. That has not worked very well. I’m going to try a more intense approach. And really push this bolder of the hill, rather than waiting from somebody to grab one of the ropes I tossed up.

We will see if that makes any progress in the next month or so.

Sorry About the Outage

3 Comments | , , , and

These last couples of weeks have been kind of busy for me. There wasn’t anything specific eating, just a whole bunch of little things.

The latest one is actually pretty cool, to me anyway. I made a major upgrade to my computer. I went from an Athlon X2 4800+ with 2GB of memory, to a Phenom X4 9850 with 4GB of memory. It’s easily twice as fast. Lightroom is blazing fast. It has no delay in doing anything. It is beautiful.

And yes I missed paying my haijak.com bill. So the site was actually down for a day. Sorry about that.

NIN: The Slip

0 Comments | , , , , , and

This is it. A slightly disturbing percentage of my posts in tha last months are about Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor. But that's only because it's pretty important.

So the go to www.nin.com on may 5 suggestion was not about the new site. It was in fact the release date for a new album The Slip.

Year Zero was released on April 16th 2007. Prior to that it was not uncommon for a span of many (5+) years between major studio albums. This time just under 13 months. And if you count Ghosts I-VI (all instrumental) only 2 months. I'm sure a large part of that is the fact that NIN and Trent Reznor are no longer tied to any label. The first released single from The Slip was released online and to radio within 24 hours of it being mastered.

Tech Dirt has a quick write up on the model that The Slip has been released with. Trent Reznor will cut the path that the rest of the music industry will follow in the future. I have no doubt of that.

As far as the album it's self goes. While the style may be far from the days of The Downward Spiral, I really like it. It’s built with very thick and heavy industrial dance beats, making a couple of great radio songs. The album as a whole, track, by track, fades into more experimental, and thus interesting stuff later. It absolutely brings back the overall form of the album as a whole, as something more that just a collection of random singles. Which I love.

Grab a copy yourself, it's completely free.
