Sin City Take Two

3 Comments | , , and

I have been nearly unbearably board lately. My days off have been little more than the computer, the television, and basic chores. I think this might be the mid-winter doldrums, or whatever people call it. All I know is I'm not far from Insanity or boredom. The first interesting thing I did in weeks was a second attempt at making a Sin City style photo.

Sin City Portrait (take two)

A friend from work liked the idea, and modeled for me. This time I was able to clean up the little things I didn't like about my first attempt. I have a better brick background, and a sharper portrait to work with. The difference is minor, but I think it works much better.

Heath Ledger's Death

So I'm sure most of you know Heath Ledger died Tuesday. I have been a fan since A Knight’s Tale. Unlike much of the net, I never doubted he would make a fantastic Joker. I have never seen him give a poor, or even ok performance. He always did excellent work as an actor. He always appeared to be a great well grounded guy.

Heath Ledger

It's surprising me that I’m compelled to write about it here. I always expected to see great movies from him for some time to come. I pains me a little, that we never will.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles

So the first two night two hour premier one of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Was Sunday and Monday. As soon as I heard of it, I knew it was a bad idea. The three movies weaved together a very nice little improvised trilogy, with little room for more story between. A rumored 4th film depicting life after the apocalypse could work, but could very easily suck.

It turns out Sarah Chronicles is not nearly a bad as I thought it would be. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still far from great, but it didn’t make me wish the Terminator movies were never made. So I give it very little credit for that. What it does get a lot of credit for (from me), is Summer Glau. She was the genius, turned psychic killing machine, in the vastly superior series, Firefly and later the movie Serenity. Is always great when people from shows I love, get new work.

However I hope she doesn’t stick with the series for more than a season or so. Playing an emotionally stunted robot killing machine, while almost completely different than a mentally disjointed killing machine (yah that’s sarcasm), could still get her poorly typecast.

I would give the Sarah Chronicles a solid try it. Some people at work seemed to like it. And I will probably give it more than it deserves because of my girl. And I’m also kind of curious where they take it.

Juno

A 16 year old gets pregnant. Then she deals with it. That sounds like a copout of a description, but it is the only one I can come up with. If I were to outline everything it would seem just like every other boring teen movie. But the reality is nothing of the sort. It’s fantastically different, and entirely original.

For a long time movies have failed to wow me. In the last 10 years there are only three movies I would tell people “they have to see. The Matrix, Children of Men, and Juno. The Matrix proved that action films could be intellectually stimulating as well. Children of Men showed that an action movie could be as emotionally powerful as the greatest classic dramas. Juno is a funny movie about a real teenage pregnant girl. It is truly a must see. I can say the best movie of of the year, suck in just at the end. But it would be tough for me to imagine a better movie coming out this year.

Alamy Approved

My first 4 photos have been approved by Alamy. Now It's time to come up with more. I have close to a thousand photos to go through. Maybe as many as half will eventually go online. That should make a pretty good catalog, I would think.

And on an entirely unrelated subject, The following video should make everybody laugh if they find renaming things that already have a good name, odd.
